1. ACRYLIC FIXTURESAcrylic fixtures are in very high demand because of its durability and cost effectiveness. Acrylic Design has extensive experience in designing and fabricating fixtures and custom products from acrylic, Plexiglas, Lucite, Lexan, polycarbonate, Sintra, Kydex, PVC, polypropylene, UHMW, HP and other plastics. These materials can be cut, shaped, drilled, machined, heat bent, oven formed, routed, and banded. Acrylic fixture products are used in hospitals, hotels, schools, laboratories, restaurants, museums, galleries, post offices, banks, expo centers, retail stores, and even many households. Our customers are not only in the Chicago area, but also across the Midwest and even as far away as California.
Our reputation as acrylic fabricators is based on our expertise and our ability to deliver often on a very short deadline. We have the ability to make custom projects for individual customers or produce large quantities of parts with consistent precision for industrial or commercial use. Our state-of-the-art CNC equipment, combined with our experienced production personnel and strong work ethic gives an edge over our competitors who even have been our customers occasionally. The CNC (computer numeric controlled) equipment comprises of a network, computers, and a computer controlled machine, such as a router, lathe, or mill. Parts are first designed using a CAD (computer aided drafting) program.
Once the part is drawn, a CAM program (computer aided machining) is used to convert the drawing to NC (numeric control) code. This code tells the machine, via a computer, what tools to use, the size of the tools needed, and the most efficient order of processes. Experience in adapting the NC code where needed is a must for any fixture fabricator. The programmer not only needs to have extensive knowledge of drafting and design, but must also understand the processes and properties associated with the materials he/she is machining. We can also use CNC technology to engrave materials for such things as logos, lettering, guide lines, or whatever the customer desires. We have many examples that we would be happy to show you. Acrylics are thermoplastic materials that offer excellent optical characteristics, resistance to environmental conditions and ease of forming.
They are manufactured from methylacrylate monomers found in the by products of petroleum, agriculture, and synthesis industries and are copolymerised for form acrylics such as polymethyl and methacrylate, known by trade names such as Lucite, Perspex and Plexiglas. There are many characteristics of acrylics that make it great for fixtures. They include:
-Mechanical properties: High impact resistance - breakage resistance 6-17 times greater than window glass. Stronger and lighter than celluloses. Rigid. Limitations are that it has a lower impact strength and formability than cellulose acetate butyrate and rigid PVC. Low starch resistance compared with glass. Flexible grades are not available.
-Optical Properties: Excellent optical clarity and complete transparency equivalent to the best optical glass.
-Thermal properties: Good low temperature characteristics. Limitations are that it is combustible - self extinguishing grades are available in sheet form only. heat resistant grades generate smoke when ignited.
